If you are considering registering for dance classes at any other dance studio or ballet school in Sunnyvale, Cupertino or Mountain View, we encourage you to ask the studio the following questions before making your decision.

Why choose Veksler Academy over other Dance Studios?

If most dance studios seem to have qualified, friendly teachers, experience teaching children and a big show at the end of the year, aren’t they all pretty much the same? Does it really matter which place you decide to enroll at? Yes. There are 4 main things that can make a huge difference in the quality of instruction your child receives, the amount of extra work and hassles the parents must deal with and the overall enjoyment & satisfaction of being involved with a dance program. Here are 4 things thatevery parent should consider before deciding on a dance studio for their child.

What Type Of Floor Is Used?

Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing astudio with a professional “floating floor”. A floating floor is a dance floor that rests on a system of high-density foam, to absorb the shock of jumping. A high-density foambase is superior to a “sprung” floor, which usually consists of a wood structure built on the regular floor.

The top layer of the dance floor is also an important factor. A vinyl composite “marley” floor is accepted worlwide as the best surface layer for recreational to professional dance. Facilities such as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Royal Academy of Dance in London, England, and River dance – The Touring Show, all use marley floors as their dance surface. A marley floor allows dancers to slide, with a degree of “controlled slip”, but is not slippery so there is less risk of slips and falls. Very few studios use professional marley floors because of the expense involved, and usually opt for a regular floor tile for a studio floor.

All of our studio locations have floating floors that have over 700 high density foam blocks under the floor surface and a marley top surface. Our special floors help reduce the risk of injuries and allow students to dance longer without getting tired.

What Is The Size Of The Class?

If the dance class has fewer students in it each child will receive more personalized attention, learn more and have more fun. With younger students it is easier for a teacher to maintain control over the class and make sure each student understands the concepts and instructions. Our smaller class sizes make sure that no fundamental concepts are being missed. A smaller class size also allows our teachers to ensure that students are not developing bad habits or improper technique.

Our studio limits all of our classes (ages 5 and up) to a maximum of just 12 students per class. With our kindergarten dance (Pre-School Dance) classes (ages 3 -4) & Angelina Ballerina Dance Classes (ages 3-5) we limit our classes to a maximum of just 8 students per class.

Are Parents Required To Alter Costumes For The Year End Show?

Most studios put on a year end show in a professional theatre. Students that perform in the show must have a costume for their dance number. Some studios may require parents to sew their child’s costumes, or pay extra and the parents must find their own seamstress to do the sewing. This can be inconvenient and frustrating for parents who are busy or can’t sew. Our studios order costumes and alter them if needed, so parents do not have to worry about any costume hassles.

Can I Get Immediate Assistance And Customer Service?

In many studios the teacher or the studio owner conducts classes and does the administration. By trying to do two jobs at once, the class may suffer as the teacher has to use class time for customer service issues, or the studio may have no customer service available if the teacher is in a class. To have a good experience it is important to choose a studio that can assist you with details like costumes or schedules, even if a teacher is occupied in a class. Our studios have office staff on hand during all regular class times, so you can get immediate assistance.
Ask any dance school, dance studio or ballet academy in Sunnyvale, Cupertino and Mountain View these questions and you will see why more families choose our studio each year. Why is dance important?

First and foremost, dance is important because it’s fun! Our teachers are dancers themselves and share their passion with their students. Additionally, the National Dance Education Organization says that dance trains a better combination of flexibility, strength, endurance, and coordination than most other physical pursuits. But beyond that, educators are increasingly recognizing the importance of the arts on cognitive development. Creative and aesthetic pursuits like dance have been repeatedly linked to improved physical, mental, and social well being, as well as academic achievement. More than ever, dance and the arts are being recognized as essential pieces of a complete education by leading teachers, administrators, and educational philosophers.

The National Dance Education Organization lists the following as reasons to learn standardized dance forms:
Provide a scaffold outlining the breadth and scope of learning and teaching dance as an art upon which to design curricula and course syllabi. Standards are a guide, not a directive nor a curriculum. They offer constructive support, suggesting areas of curriculum but not defining it. Standards allow each district or school to develop an approach most suited to local or individual values.
Serve as a springboard for creativity for the learning and teaching of dance making: improvisation, choreography, and composition. Standards suggest avenues of creative exploration in the arts-making processes of Performing, Creating, Responding to, and interconnecting dance learning to knowledge of other disciplines and life skills. Define age-appropriate expectations and levels of achievement in the art of dance. Standards inform individual schools of dance and school districts what students should know and be able to do in the art of dance at certain benchmark levels when taught by a highly qualified dance teacher in a graduated curriculum.

My 2 kids started the piano lessons at 6 and 8. They like the teachers and the piano lessons. The teachers are enthusiastic in the music and dedicated to students success. The school has the flexibility to arrange the lessons for my kids at the same time. Otherwise I would have to wait longer for them to finish the class one by one. Piano lessons help kids in self esteem, coordination, and concentration. I would recommend this music school for the parents.

Our son started learning Piano (private lessons) when he was a little over 3.5 yrs old. Even though our son enjoyed listening to music and is/was good at memorizing the tunes/songs ...we were a little skeptical about his ability to stay focused and learn Piano at that young age. Within a month's time we were pleasantly surprised to see his progress... Our son is now nearly 4 yrs 9 months and has already given 2 wonderful recitals. He now religiously practices piano every day...and enjoys attending his weekly classes. The piano teachers at Veksler Academy are very patient while interacting with young kids and yet very professional. We very highly recommend Veksler Academy !
