Dance Programs -
offered in our Sunnyvale Dance Studio
►Preschool
Dance Program (Kindergarten Dance)
This class is
designed as an introduction to dance and ideal for children age 3-4 without any
experience in dance. The goals of Kindergarten Dance are to foster creativity,
freedom and expression in movement, and a love for dance. The creative
component is quite large. Several fun or special activities happen in each
class. For example, a scarf or flag dance at the end can facilitate the
dancer’s own physical expression. Taking part in dancing out a narrative helps
children to understand that dancing is expression. It is a means of
communicating feelings and actions.
►Pre-jazz
This energetic class is for children who are age
4 and have either completed kindergarten Dance and are not yet old enough for 1
hour of Jazz or Hip Hop, or who want a faster faced class than ballet/tap
combo. This class is 45 min class with a focus on Jazz Technique set to Motown
and Funk music like Stevie Wonder, James Brown and Sly and the Family Stone.
This level is designed to prepare younger dancers with the skills they need to
move up to the next level of Jazz and Hip Hop.
Jazz and Hip Hop
What is the
difference between Jazz and Hip Hop?
Jazz style of dance is what is seen in many Broadway type shows such as “Cats”.
It is a more structured, stage style of dance. Hip Hop is a fast, high
energy type of dance seen in music videos
and commercials.
Dance moves seen in performance by artists such as Beyonce, Justin Timberlake
and J Lo would be typical examples of Hip Hop.
►Pre-Ballet/Tap

45 hour, 1 time per week. Ages 3 1/2-5

The Pre-Ballet/Tap class teaches fundamental Ballet steps and combines the
elements of tap moves and traditional music. We have found that the combination
of Ballet and Tap is ideal for this age. Students learn the necessary elements
of Ballet which are crucial to success in Jazz, but also get to learn Tap moves
which require the coordination and balance.

Tap requires a great deal of coordination and can
be a challenging style of dance. Students younger than 5 can join our very
popular combo class Pre-ballet/tap where they will learn basic movements form
both dances. Students will learn appropriate tap technique to later incorporate
arms into Broadway style choreography.
